A simple, powerful decision.
Recently I was with one of my clients and she asked me, what I thought was the one thing that a smoker needs to do to become an ex-smoker?
I asked her to elaborate on the meaning of the question so I could fully understand her and respond accordingly. After she explained what she meant, which was that she wanted to know what the smoker had to do to become truly successful and finally free from nicotine addiction.
My answer was simply this…”It is not really about what the smoker has to do, but it is about what the smoker really wants. It is about the smoker making a true decision. Nothing more, nothing less”!
I then explained to her the concept of “true decision” as to wishful, hopeful, or procrastinated thinking. She got the message.
Every smoker eventually will want to stop smoking or at the least, contemplate what life would be like without tobacco. There are only two types of people that don’t think about stopping smoking and those are young people (because they think they are in control or immortal and they will never get a smoking related illness) and the other types are idiots. It is true that there are hundreds, thousands, even millions of smokers who really do think that they are exempt from the probability of being struck down by the evil things that nicotine addiction can do to a human being.
However, amongst the smart, intelligent and brave smokers, there lies a secret desire to stop smoking for good. If it hasn’t raised its head yet, it will do eventually. All smokers want to stop. This is a fact.
No two people are the same, and no two people think the same way when it comes to achievement. Stopping smoking is an achievement. Everybody is different. But when it comes to the smoker, although they may be different mentally, physically, even spiritually, they are being held by the same trap and the way to escape that trap is the same for everybody.
Go up a few paragraphs…if you are a smoker reading this then the answer to being an ex-smoker is there. If you can’t see it then I will tell you again…
The answer to any smoker becoming an ex-smoker permanently is making a “TRUE DECISION”
The actual action of stopping smoking is easy. The withdrawal period of a few days is bearable and controllable. Don’t believe it? Then you will never believe it. My fiend… It is true! The fear that smokers possess about life being miserable without tobacco is just a pathetic myth and easily reversed with the right education. The changes socially and domestically a smoker has to do are extremely easy and effortless to manage too. Just a little planning is required. All these quit smoking related fear aspects, are thrown aside instantly when the smoker makes that life saving “True Decision”.
But what is the end outcome of that decision? Well apart from the obvious life saving, life improving result, the desired outcome is the feeling. Which feeling? Well that depends on the individual but for sure it will be a feeling of happiness, success, or achievement. Regardless of what the feeling is it will be a feeling of a positive nature. In life, all we really want are great or good feelings.
Can you imagine how you would feel if you could accomplish any objective in your life? Wouldn’t that be awesome? You have finally got what you wanted and you did it by yourself. But who is going to make you feel good about that achievement?
You are! You are the answer to it all! You are the controller of the feelings that you possess right now and the feelings that you want in the future. The only person is you, so to get those feelings in reality, why do you need to wait? Why not give to you what you deserve and get that feeling that you desire right now. Why don’t you get the feeling of freedom, health, power, happiness and that feeling that you are once again in control of your life?
We don’t really look for the result. The truth is …we seek the feeling that the result will give us.
Imagine now how you would feel if you could just stop smoking at the snap of a finger. How would it feel to you? It would feel fantastic right? Have you forgotten that feeling where you feel the most alive, the most energetic, most passionate, most accomplished? That feeling is the best. It is awesome and it is empowering too. Think back to a time in your life when the moment was perfect and the results were awesome. Wow! Remember?
This is what it feels like when you achieve the one goal that your heart desires. This is what it feels like when you finally stop smoking too! Now get this… those feelings are available to anybody at anytime. Those feelings are available to you right now! That feeling of when you stop smoking is right inside you as you are reading this. Do not doubt this. It is true my friend.
As I said above…If it’s there now and available now then take it! Why wait? Take control of your body and your health right now!
To do this means that you must make a “True Decision” now.
You have to create a state of energy where you feel alive and in control of everything related to your life and your health. But to create, do, have, be, get, achieve, stop, and win, you must make a true decision. Not a half hearted pathetic back to the same situation in a few hours time decision either. Remember those feeble try to quit smoking decisions? Of course you do.
If you want to be an ex-smoker then don’t wait for the result of being an ex-smoker as it won’t come. You need to go after it… after the emotion that is related to being an ex-smoker like me and the millions of people around the world today. That emotion is in you. It’s there …All you have to do is just make a decision to get it. If you have the right emotion about what being an ex-smoker feels like then you are virtually an ex-smoker. You just need to fine tune your daily and social plan and you’ve got it.
I can’t stress enough that the way you hold your body and thought process is a related key to becoming an ex-smoker. “Motion causes emotion” If your depressed, feeling down or angry then for sure your posture is going transfer this information to the world outside and more importantly to your physiology and bio-chemistry.. But if you are feeling awesome and your shoulders are back, your face is lit up and you have a feeling of true achievement then how would your body look? What message would your body send now?
You know what feeling lousy looks like. We have all been there. We all know what feeling awesome looks like too. They are totally opposite in posture and in emotion.
Emotion is the key. Posture is the key. Decision is the key.
Now if you change the way you are as a smoker like for example the way you move, the way you breathe, the places you go, the way your face looks, the way you speak, then your bio-chemistry will change and you will automatically change physically and emotionally. It will be triggered automatically and the state of mind you possess will be just fantastic. It will be the same state of mind that successful people have and never let go.
Try something if you can. Go to a mirror and start looking at the person in the reflection and think what a waste of time it is being with them. Talk to them if you want. Look at your reflection and put it into your mind that being with them is a complete waste of your time and say it. Being in the company of them is just giving you no good feelings whatever. Do it for at least a minute. Notice what your face looks like. What is your voice like? Your head? Your eyes? If you can’t do it (although I strongly recommend that you at least try it) then try to remember when you last felt that way. Totally non-interested in anything.
Now if you observe, your emotional state and body posture or action is going to be closed and shallow. Your facial muscles will be moving in a way that they are expressing a look that shows bad feeling.
You have that because you just did it by acting, and of course it wasn’t real. You did it in front of a mirror. You created an emotion. Instantly! Although negative, it was still spontaneously created by YOU!!!
Now…when you have another minute, go back to the mirror and pretend that the person in your reflection is the person that you have been dying to see for years. Pretend maybe it is your idol from the movies, or a sport star that has inspired you. Or that it is the person that you most likely want to be like. You love this person. You want to spend time with this person. You can’t believe that this person is there in front of you now. Holy shit how is this happening? Wow!
How does that feel even as you’re reading these instructions? What would you say to them? I want you to notice the way your face is. Your voice. Your breathing. Your body. It is all good right? It is a feeling that warms your emotional state nicely. It takes your bio-chemistry to a new level. Your physiology is positive and showing energy.
…and all this was created by you just making a simple but yet powerful decision to do it. You can’t wait for the right emotion because that is not going to happen. Emotions don’t just happen…you do them. Most smokers who fail to become ex-smokers don’t have enough of the outcome pulling them. They imagine and create the emotions through decision that the process for stopping smoking is a long haul, filled with nothing but bad feelings and almost impossible to achieve then they will not last five minutes. This is not powerful enough to pull the smoker to the end objective of being free from nicotine addiction.
The smoker who has failed many times to quit smoking in the past does not believe it enough that he or she can achieve it because there is nothing powerful pulling him or her. Most failed to quit smokers do not have enough associated to what they want. They don’t have enough lure. Most smokers are trying to push their way to get the result and this is not the way to do it.
If you can imagine and fix it in your brain, your mind, your body, your posture, your physiology, your bio-chemistry, how you would go about your daily life as an ex-smoker then this will pull you towards it.
And pull is more powerful than push.
Smokers will not stop smoking if they don’t have a vision of a healthy exciting life that is just wonderful because they stopped smoking. If it is not exciting enough, or they don’t believe it enough that they can stop smoking then it is going to be another failure. But we can change that in an instant. The way to change that is the state of mind that the smoker has. The place they need to be is in that wonderful place that exists when you quit smoking. It exists like I said. You just have to imagine you are there. Then take that feeling and the emotions related to it and hold it forever. It’s about celebration and satisfaction and you can make yourself feel this way instantly.
It only takes a decision.
A “true decision”
